Night Stalker's only hope could be blademail. But even this does not buy him enough time to DPS slardar. A mixture of cranium basher and blademail could work well though to get in a few cheap shots.
Early Game, both unfarmed, a Night Stalker can both run as fast as Slardar, as well as attack faster. Sure Slardar has his aoe stun, but considering the early game nuke of Night Stalker, it really is nothing (assuming Night Stalker doesn't Silence him). Especially if Slardar has sprint on. This would deal a serious amount of damage. The passive bash of Slardar would also not be effective early game if slardar is unfarmed.
Although, even an unfarmed Slardar, could take down a reasonably well farmed Night Stalker of the same level when it comes to late game. Passive bash trumps the occasional pitiful late game damage of void, and Night Stalker's attack speed isn't too much to swoon over as he doesn't have a serious amount of DPS to back him up.
Early Game + Unfarmed = Night Stalker
Late Game = Slardar... Hands down
